Dumplings With Herbs and Homemade Alfredo Sauce – Yum Yum!!

Oh My Goodness! We are going to splurge all over the place today with some amazing comfort food! We are going to make fresh dumplings with thyme, parsley and oregano added. We are going to set these amazing dumplings afloat in a sea of decadent, homemade, Alfredo sauce full of buttery garlic goodness and topped with additional oregano. This is a meal in itself; however, if you want to add a protein, go right ahead! Grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon or even meatballs just adds to the depth of deliciousness this dish offers you and whoever you choose to share it with. Ready? Let’s go on a gastro journey to soothe your soul.

Before we get to the recipes, let’s look at the health benefits of the herbs we are going to use today. It is amazing that the seasonings we use everyday offer so many benefits for what ails us!

Garlic:

  1. Reduces cholesterol
  2. Reduces heart attack risk
  3. Stimulates the immune system
  4. Reduces blood pressure
  5. Is anti-parasitic

Thyme:

  1. Ideal for deep seated chest infections
  2. Relieves digestive distress
  3. Is anti-bacterial
  4. Is anti-fungal

Oregano:

  1. Heals coughs
  2. Soothes asthma
  3. Helps with diarrhea
  4. Calms a stomach ache
  5. Aids digestion
  6. Is anti-inflammatory

Parsley

  1. Loaded with vitamins and minerals
  2. Supports healthy digestion
  3. Has a diuretic effect
  4. Protects against osteoporosis
  5. Gives you fresh breath

Making dumplings is seriously one of the simplest things you can do. There is nothing much to it but the end results are fantastic! The recipe we are going to use today is as follows:

1.5 cups of all purpose flour

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of baking soda

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon dried parsley

1 teaspoon dried oregano

3 tablespoons of butter

3/4 cup of milk (or milk substitute. I will be using almond milk as cows milk does not agree with me.)

Step 1

In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, thyme, parsley and oregano.

Step 2

Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Gradually add the milk, using just enough to form a thick batter.

Step 4

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough into simmering soup or stew. We are using homemade chicken broth. Cover and allow to cook for 15 minutes.

Step 5

When the dumplings are cooked through, drain them in a strainer so they can be added to the fresh Alfredo sauce!

For our Fresh Alfredo Sauce, the recipe is as follows:

1 cup butter

1.5 tablespoons of minced garlic

3 tablespoon of all-purpose flour

1 quart of heavy cream

8 ounces freshly shredded Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon of oregano

Step 1

Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in the garlic and stir until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.

Step 2

Stir in the flour and stir until the mixture is smooth.

Step 3

Whisk in the heavy cream and whisk constantly until the mixture is hot and slightly thickened. This will take about 10 minutes.

Step 4

Gradually stir in the Parmesan cheese. Do this slowly and with great presence. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth. This will take about 20 to 30 minutes.

When the sauce is complete, gently stir in the dumplings until well coated. Sprinkle some fresh parsley over the top if you so desire. Enjoy!!!

The number one secret to making amazing Alfredo sauce is to be totally present during the whole process. If you are rushed or feel like you are in a huge hurry, don’t make this sauce. If you are feeling anxiety, making this sauce can be very therapeutic. There is a lot of slow, steady stirring as you bring this sauce to the finished product. Slowing down and breathing to the rhythem of the slow stirring can be very effective in bringing down your anxiety level. Just breathing and being present while preparing food for yourself and those you love will bring such a sense of peace to your life. As you are stirring, think deeply about how you are adding love to the dish and how you are intending it to bring peace and harmony to the table. So many times in our hurry up world, we tell ourselves we don’t have time to cook food from scratch. I’m asking you to consider that maybe you don’t have time to not cook fresh food from scratch.
